FMDM has served Zambia since 1946, beginning at Kasaba Mission. Since then, we have served the Zambian people through supported missions through education, healthcare, pastoral care, prison ministry and aid for vulnerable groups. Today, three communities continue this work, focusing on livelihoods, education, health and justice, peace and care for the environment (JPIC) initiatives.
St Anthony’s Convent, Lusaka
Since 1978, St Anthony’s Convent has been a hub of hospitality for FMDM sisters and visitors. It serves as a pre-novitiate and hosts ‘Come and See’ retreats for aspiring sisters. The vocation promoter resides here, and sisters are active in education, pastoral care, prayer companionship and prison ministry.

St Francis’ Convent, Kasanka, Luapula Province
In 1999, FMDM sisters arrived in Kasanka, Mansa Diocese, continuing their mission among local communities. They addressed illiteracy, poverty, and malnutrition by teaching reading, writing, and survival skills including sewing, farming, and nutrition. Today, they focus on early education, counselling, child protection, moral guidance, and school feeding programs.

Rieti Community – Lusaka
Sisters here undertake ministries including prayer guide training and various roles in the field of education. The Zambian Project Office has a presence alongside the sisters and coordinates key projects including St Francis Community School, Kalali Farm in Kasanka, and Little Assisi Special School and Farm in Lusaka.
