Malaysia

Since 1963, the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) have gently but faithfully sown seeds of Gospel love across Malaysia. Rooted in prayer, simplicity, and service, their presence has been a quiet beacon — offering healing, hope, and accompaniment to the people of Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang for over six decades.

Our Story

Since arriving in Malaysia, FMDM Sisters have enriched Catholic health care through Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital in Penang which opened in 1976 and collaboration with the Brothers of Mercy at Fatima Hospital, Ipoh. Today, a vibrant community continues its mission inspired by St Francis and St Clare, with elder sisters offering contemplative prayer as a source of spiritual strength.

Serving the Present

FMDM sisters have served Malaysia for decades, bringing Christ’s healing presence through ministries in healthcare, education, pastoral care, and spiritual accompaniment. Life in community is rooted in prayer, simplicity, and joy, with Eucharist and shared celebrations sustaining their mission of love and faith.

Embracing the Future

The FMDM story in Malaysia continues to grow. Partnerships with lay collaborators bring fresh energy to the mission. Through joys and challenges, the sisters remain rooted in the Gospel, embracing the future with trust and courage. In a world longing for tenderness, they witness God’s nearness through simple living, deep love, and humble service.
