Our sisters have had a presence in the Middle East since 1967, beginning by working in healthcare both in a large hospital and amongst the poor in mobile and temporary clinics, then expanding into project work helping people in need.
They were invited first to work in a private hospital in Amman, Jordan, but they found that the poorest were unable to pay the hospital fees, so they left in 1970 and began mobile medical work. Later the sisters developed more permanent clinics in Marka and Zerqa, and helped many displaced people from different groups of refugees, including those affected by the Gulf war in the early 1990s.

In 2017 Sr Bridget Tighe, an Arabic speaker who has worked in Jordan for many years, returned to the Middle East to work in senior positions for Caritas in Gaza and Jerusalem until 2023. Sr Bridget continues her mission in Jerusalem as the contact for FMDM projects for Misean Cara. She works tirelessly for the people irrespective of race, religion or ethnicity.
